    Data collection within an organization.

Work systems tend to generate large amounts of data. From a changed perspective, it is important that the data come from meaningful sources that are recognizable to the people who are working in the system. Data collection must be as easy, straightforward, and automatic as possible. The most powerful place for data collection and validation is in the hands of the people in the workgroup. Data kept in one part of a process about another is often useful only in creating divisiveness and defensiveness among the people in the organization.

Data is one of the most valuable resources today’s businesses have. The more information you have about your customers, the better you can understand their interests, wants and needs. This enhanced understanding helps you meet and exceed your customers’ expectations and allows you to create messaging and products that appeal to them.

According to a Helical IT survey, if a decision is made relying on data rather than pure intuition, the chances of succeeding are 79% higher. By implementing a centralized data collection process, an organization is able to make data-driven decisions. Once a system is in place, the quality and quantity of data that a business collects over the years, and how it decides to use it, will strongly influence its competitive advantage and sustainability.

After data have been collected and validated, some sort of initial analysis has to be performed. This can be as simple as the basic math required to determine units per hour or acceptance rates.

Data has become a major priority for businesses of all sizes.  Companies capture data in many ways from many sources. Some processes are highly technical in nature, while others are more deductive (although these methods often employ sophisticated software).

Successful business leaders have always relied on some form of data to help them make decisions.
